Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the Right Air Purifier

What size air purifier do I need?

Coverage area is the most important factor. GreenTech Environmental offers purifiers for every space:

  • The pureAir SOLO is designed for personal use (up to 3 sq. ft.).
  • The pureAir 50 covers up to 325 sq. ft.
  • The Active HEPA+ Room covers up to 575 sq. ft.
  • The pureAir 1500 handles spaces up to 1,500 sq. ft.
  • The pureAir 3000 covers whole-home environments up to 3,000 sq. ft

For best results, match the purifier to your room's square footage — or size up for open floor plans.

What is the difference between active and passive air purification?

Passive purifiers (like standard HEPA filters) pull air through a filter to trap particles — they only clean air that passes through the unit. Active purifiers, like the pureAir and Active HEPA+ lines, release purifying agents (ions, activated oxygen, PCO) into the room to neutralize pollutants at the source — even in areas far from the unit.

Which air purifier is best for allergies?

The Active HEPA+ Room and Active HEPA+ Pro are ideal for allergy sufferers. They combine true HEPA filtration with ODOGard® odor destruction and bipolar ionization to capture and neutralize airborne allergens, pollen, dust, and mold spores.

Which air purifier is best for pet odors?

The pureAir 3000 and pureAir 1500 use Scalable Activated Oxygen and PCO technology to neutralize tough odors from pets, cooking, smoke, and mold at the source — not just mask them.

Is the pureAir SOLO safe to wear all day?

Yes. The pureAir SOLO is a wearable personal ionizer designed for continuous use during travel, commuting, or in crowded spaces. It produces no ozone at harmful levels and requires no filter replacements.

Can I run the pureAir 3000 and 1500 continuously around pets and family?

Yes. In its standard operational mode, the pureAir 3000 and the pureAir 1500 continuously purifies the air safely alongside people and pets. Just ensure Away Mode — which initiates a high-output ozone cycle — is only activated when the room is completely unoccupied.

Replacement Parts & Maintenance

How often do I need to replace my filter or PCO cell?

Replacement schedules vary by product:

  • Active HEPA+ Filter with ODOGard® (Room & Pro): every 6–12 months
  • Active HEPA+ PCO Cell (Room & Pro): every 1–2 years
  • Active HEPA+ Ionization Brushes: annually
  • pureAir 1500 & 3000 PCO/ARC Cell: annually (~9,000 hours of use)
  • pureAir 3000 Ceramic Purification Plate: every 12–24 months; clean periodically
  • pureAir 1500 Ozone Purification Plate: every 1–2 years
  • pureWash Desiccant Dryer Cartridge: every 3–12 months (replace when indicator beads turn from blue to pink)

How do I know which replacement part fits my purifier?

Each replacement part page lists compatible models. As a quick reference:

  • Active HEPA+ Room → Active HEPA+ Room Filter with ODOGard®, Active HEPA+ Room PCO Cell, Ionization Brushes
  • Active HEPA+ Pro → Active HEPA+ Pro Filter with ODOGard®, Active HEPA+ Pro PCO Cell, Ionization Brushes
  • pureAir 1500 → pureAir 1500 PCO/ARC Cell, pureAir 1500 Ozone Purification Plate
  • pureAir 3000 → pureAir 3000 PCO/ARC Cell, pureAir 3000 Ceramic Purification Plate

What happens if I don't replace my filter or PCO cell on time?

Delayed replacement reduces purification effectiveness. A saturated HEPA filter restricts airflow and stops trapping new particles. An expired PCO cell loses its ability to generate the oxidation products that neutralize pathogens and odors. We recommend setting a calendar reminder based on your unit's replacement schedule.

Cleaning & Care

What are purification (ozone) plates, and how do I care for them?

Purification plates use high-voltage electrical discharge to convert oxygen into activated oxygen (ozone), which breaks down stubborn odors, mold, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at the molecular level. The plates accumulate dust and residue over time, so they should be inspected regularly and washed with warm, soapy water or isopropyl alcohol, then allowed to dry completely before reinserting.

How does Away Mode work on the pureAir 3000 and 1500?

Away Mode initiates a high-output ozone cycle designed to sanitize deep odors and mold when the space is completely unoccupied. A built-in timer automatically turns the feature off before people and pets return.

How do I clean my air purifier's internal components?

Power off and unplug the unit completely before cleaning. Then follow these guidelines by component:

  • Purification Plates: Wash gently with warm, soapy water or isopropyl alcohol, and allow to dry completely before reinserting.
  • Ionization Brushes: Wipe accumulated dust off the brush tips using a soft, dry cotton swab.
  • Exterior & Personal Units: Wipe down with a soft cloth dampened only with rubbing alcohol. Never insert water or tools into output vents.

Technology

What is PCO (Photocatalytic Oxidation)?

PCO uses broad-spectrum UV light combined with a catalyst to create active oxidation products that destroy bacteria, mold, viruses, and VOCs at the molecular level — even in areas the purifier isn't directly pointed at. Learn more on our Our Technology page.

What is ARC (Active Radiant Catalysis)?

ARC is GreenTech's advanced PCO technology used in the pureAir 1500 and pureAir 3000. It enhances the standard PCO process for greater coverage and more efficient neutralization of airborne and surface contaminants.

What is ODOGard®?

ODOGard® is a patented treatment applied to HEPA filter media that permanently destroys odor-causing molecules from mold, bacteria, and VOCs — rather than simply trapping or masking them.

Does the pureAir 3000 and 1500 produce ozone? Is it safe?

The pureAir 3000 and pureAir 1500 use Scalable Activated Oxygen (a controlled form of ozone) as one of its purification methods. Output levels are adjustable and designed to remain within safe limits for occupied spaces. If you have specific sensitivities, contact us and we can help you select the right unit.
