About Us

Our Story

Some companies are built from opportunity. GreenTech Environmental was built from commitment — to customers who depended on us, to dealers who trusted us, and to the belief that people deserve honest information and products that actually work.

Where It Began

After graduating from Purdue University in 1983, Allen Johnston spent his early career in aerospace with Hughes Aircraft and later Raytheon, eventually becoming Test Engineering Manager for a large missile manufacturing facility in Bristol, Tennessee. Those years shaped his approach to engineering, quality, and management in ways that would define everything that followed.

When that facility closed in 1998, Allen joined Alpine Industries — later renamed EcoQuest International — an air purification company that sold through network marketing. Beyond engineering and manufacturing, Allen became a teacher, helping educate a dealer organization that grew to more than 100,000 independent representatives. That experience reinforced a principle he has never forgotten: people make better decisions when they understand why. Technical information should be accurate and complete — but it should also be explained in language that real people can understand and use.

Building GreenTech Environmental

When the 2008 financial crisis contributed to EcoQuest entering bankruptcy, Allen and Ellen Johnston and their son Alex faced a choice. They could walk away from the industry and the relationships they had built — or they could start again. They chose to start again.

In 2009, the Johnston family founded GreenTech Environmental. The company created products using active air purification technology, with new designs and a relentless focus on quality. GreenTech grew from three family members to more than 110 employees and served hundreds of thousands of customers across the country.

Education remained a hallmark. While many companies treated their technology as a mysterious black box, GreenTech took a different approach — giving dealers and customers the knowledge to understand the science, evaluate their options, and make informed decisions. That approach created trust. Many of the relationships formed during those years have lasted for decades.

A New Beginning

In early 2021, GreenTech Environmental was sold. Over time, the culture changed, and in December 2025 the company ceased operations. Nearly 500,000 customers had invested in GreenTech products — many depending on them every day. For the Johnston family, allowing those customers to be abandoned was not acceptable.

The Johnstons purchased the remaining inventory, reclaimed the GreenTech Environmental name, and began serving customers again through GTE Sourcing. Some of the independent dealers working with the new GreenTech Environmental have known Allen for nearly thirty years.

GTE Sourcing — the new GreenTech Environmental — is both a new company and a continuation of a long commitment. Its standards were not written for a manual. They were learned through decades of engineering, manufacturing, teaching, customer service, growth, disappointment, and starting again.

What We Believe

Products alone never build great companies. People do. Technology will advance and markets will evolve — but honesty, keeping promises, treating people with respect, and helping others make informed decisions never go out of style.

Those principles helped build the original GreenTech Environmental. They remain the foundation of everything we do today.
