Step-by-Step Cleaning Instructions
1. Cleaning the Rear Lint Screen & Pre-Filter (Monthly)
- Unplug the unit from the power outlet.
- Press the release tabs on the rear filter assembly and carefully remove the filter frame.
- Vacuum away loose dust and lint, or hand-wash the screen under warm tap water.
- Crucial: Allow the filter to dry completely (100% dry) before reinstalling it into the unit.
2. Deep-Cleaning the Ceramic Purification Plate (Monthly)
- With the unit unplugged, remove the rear filter cover to access the ceramic plate slot.
- Gently slide the ceramic purification plate out of its slot.
- Soak: Submerge the plate in a shallow dish filled with warm water mixed with white vinegar (or clear ammonia) for 8 to 10 hours (do not exceed 12 hours).
- Scrub & Rinse: Gently scrub the wire mesh with a soft-bristle toothbrush to remove scale and oxidation buildup. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Dry Completely: Allow the plate to air-dry for 12 to 24 hours. Reinstalling a wet or damp ceramic plate can short-circuit the internal high-voltage transformer.
- Clean Internal Contacts: While the plate is drying, take a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol and gently wipe down the metal contact springs inside the plate slot.
3. Maintaining the PCO Cell & Ionization Needle (Annual / As Needed)
- Unplug the unit and remove the rear cover assembly.
- Use compressed air or a soft brush vacuum attachment to gently clear dust from the honeycomb matrix of the PCO cell and the surrounding needlepoint ionizers.
- Important Safety Note: Do not use water, liquid cleaners, or cloths on the delicate UV bulb or titanium dioxide target inside the PCO cell.
4. Replacing the PCO Cell Assembly (Every 12 Months)
Over time, the UV lamp inside the PCO cell degrades in intensity — even if it still appears to light up. Replacing it annually ensures consistent hydroperoxide production.
- Power off and unplug the pureAir 3000.
- Remove the rear filter housing and unscrew the mounting bracket holding the PCO cell in place.
- Disconnect the wire harness, remove the old PCO cell, and insert the replacement cell.
- Reattach the wire harness, tighten the bracket, snap the rear cover back into place, and reset the PCO timer via the front menu controls.
